This is quoted from the song called 'Flightless Bird, American Mouth' by Iron and Wine. I first heard the song in the movie Twilight.

The reason I put it here in the first place because of this story:

Once there was a girl about my age named Janice, and this guy named Clyde liked her. She was his first love. He started liking her during second grade, when they were classmates. Anyway, Janice found out. How, you ask? Through a series of people. The first time she found out was when they were in fifth grade. A classmate of Janice and Clyde told her. But Janice dismissed the idea of Clyde liking her, merely because she didn't think anyone would even like her. Not even Clyde. But anyway, Janice still kept hanging out with Clyde. A year after that(sixth grade), a good friend of hers named Kristy told her that she(Janice) was Clyde's first love. Janice asked since when, and Kristy told Janice that it was since the second grade. Janice was super excited, because it was all true, that Clyde liked her. Excited why? Because she too, has fallen in love with Clyde.

Soon after finding out that she liked him back, she told some of her trusted friends that were girls. Then Clyde knew. How?

One day, Clyde, Sam and Luke(friends of Clyde) visited Juliana--one of Janice's trusted friends--for a casual visit. It just so happens that Clyde's two friends have love stories(meaning they know that the girls they like like them back)with Janice and Juliana's two other bestfriends, named Veronica and Violet. Veronica and Sam, Violet and Luke. What happened was during their visit was, Sam and Luke was teasing Clyde about Janice. Juliana was so amused and was having so much fun that she accidentally spilled the beans to Clyde. Clyde, who heard the news for the first time, tried to fight his BIG BIG smile back. So that's what happened(and the visit happened during a vacation of some sort in the middle of the school year).

When vacation ended and all of them went back to school, the first thing that happened was Juliana told Janice about how she spilled the beans. She said it was an accident and apologized for telling her secret. Janice was...a little bit stunned and a bit excited. But also speechless. After that, Clyde and Janice talked, but indirectly. They talked through Juliana during that day.

After that, Clyde and Juliana only communicated through text messaging and occasional instant messaging.

Graduation from Elementary. Clyde gives the promised gift for Janice.(It was during their fifth grade when Clyde had promised to give Janice this certain object.)But Clyde didn't give it to Janice personally. He was too timid to be around Janice now, so he asked someone else to give it to her.

First Year highschool. Somewhere in the middle of their freshman years, Clyde started to court Janice indirectly. How indirectly? Through text messaging. They exchanged their 143s and talked through that method only. So, one day, Janice was curious on why Clyde wouldn't even talk to her, so she texted Clyde why he wouldn't come near her. Clyde said something along the lines of,

"Well, because if I go near you and talk to you, people might think that there is something between us. You know, like we're already a couple or something, and they'll start bothering and teasing us, and we won't get any inch of privacy for the rest of our school days."

Janice completely accepted his reason, and went to live with life.

But as months passed by, Janice started to doubt that reason. Why? Because other couples out there weren't in the same situation. If those couples talked to each other, nobody would even mind them. Another reason not all people knew about the things between them except their closest and dearest friends.

Clyde's friends were the sort of people who WOULD bother and tease them, but Clyde COULD always ask his friends to not do that. Janice thought it was weird because when other people(a boy and a girl) talk and tease each other, CLYDE AND HIS FRIENDS WOULD BOTHER THEM TOO. So yeah, Janice thinks why does Clyde do it to other people when he doesn't want it to happen to him? So the only way for it not to happen to him was to stay as far as he could from Janice. She knew that fact from her own investigation and observations. And when times Clyde won't text her for a month or more, she would wonder why does he have to take away their ONLY way of communicating to each other? Those reasons had deeply hurt her.

You know what? I'm somewhere in the story. Just try to find me if you can ;)

Oh and, the quote from the song is related to this story because Janice is really confused because if Clyde really loves her, he would have the courage to talk to her face to face and not mind the people, so she feels like she did find someone but at the same times she lost him.
