I found out that I can only do a maximum of two portraits per day, but that also depends on my starting time and the colors of the pictures and what medium I use. Ewa's picture took me 2 hours to paint while Crystal's picture took me 6 hours to color in and paint.

I took a lot less time on Ewa's pic because the picture was black and white. Crystal's picture took so long because I had to color in with different colors to make it look like the picture.

Chelsea's picture took me around 6-8 hours to paint because it's mostly watercolor. The only part that I used color pencils on was the hair part and some parts of the hat. Watercolor takes long to dry.

It was all good fun.

Ewa's progress photos:


A sketch of Ewa on normal paper



Traced on watercolor paper and started defining the nose using gray color pencils, not normal ones.



Finished face I think. Can't remember if I was still working on it at this stage.



I started with the the left side on the hair, since I'm right handed. This prevents it from smudging too much when I work on other parts.



I then painted her jumper with black watercolors.



I colored the top part of her hair with a black color pencil.



I brushed the parts where I put black color pencil with water. I regretted doing that, haha. Oh well. What's done is done.


I started defining her hair more. After that, I painted the background gray and put some finishing touches.

As usual, I do the face first.

Gosh, it looks creepy by itself XD

That's it. I forgot to take pictures after this XD Only because the last 3 hours were 6pm-8pm, and I was tired by then. Hehe :P

First, a sketch on normal printer paper :D


I then put it on my "light table" and trace the sketch on watercolor paper :D

My light table is basically the glass pane that's used in picture frames. What I do is put the sketch underneath the watercolor paper and light a lamp under it, so it shows me le sketch underneath le watercolor paper :D

I then painted flat colors first and let it dry. I forgot to take a picture for that one ._.


What I did next was paint the dark colors on.


When I compared it to the reference picture... HOLY CRAP WRONG PROPORTIONS AND THINGS WRONG PLACES EVERYWHERE ADSFJALSDKFJA; T_T



Le finished portrait, with a green background. I put the dots on the ribbon on the ribbon of her hat. Yay, finished! ;w;

So I scanned it today and fixed the contrast of colors using GIMP, and put le watermark :)
